Smoking is done by people in almost every part of the world . In some countries , an individual smokes more than 20 cigarettes a day . But due to more and more awareness about the link between coronary diseases , lung cancer and tobacco , there is a decline in number of cigarettes smoked per day or number of smokers . Approximately 50% of the individuals in U.K smoke , which results in 50,000 deaths due to smoking in one year .
CORONARY DISEASES AND SMOKING
Nicotine , tar are some the contents of tobacco . Coronary diseases is done by blood clotting , which is done by nicotine as it raises the level of fatty acids .
SMOKING AND LUNG CANCER
Along with carbon particles , we also have components like phenols , cyanide in tobacco . This contents futher increase the chances of developing cancer of lung in smoker.

According to a survey , smoking cigarettes cause people to eat less . Though it lowers their weight but it is not sugested that overweight people should start smoking to lower their weight . Also not ignoring the fact that overweight non-smokers are more active than smokers .
OTHER RISKS OF SMOKING
1. Smoking also leads to ulcers like gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer .
2.Moreover,in the case of pregnancy ,the children of mothers who are non-smokers are healthier and bigger than those of mothers who smoke ..This is due to the carbon monoxide present in blood stream of mothers who smoke as this is responsible for depriving the fetus of some of its oxygen supply. This also increases the chance of still births and miscarriage.
3.Chronic bronchitis and smoker’s cough are causes by heavy smoking .
4.The effect of smoking can be more dangerous if smoking is done in high pollution area.
PASSIVE SMOKING
If a person spends considerable time among people who are smoking or in a car which is full of cigarette smoke ,then by merely inhaling the smoke regularly ,they absorb appreciable amount of nicotine and tar and thereby increase the amount of carbon-monoxide and tar in the human system may eventually lead to coronary disease and lung cancer.
